What is Food Insecurity?

Feeding American as "a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life."ÌýIt is important to know that though hunger and food insecurity are closely related, they are distinct concepts. Hunger refers to a personal, physical sensation of discomfort, while food insecurity refers to a lack of available financial resources for food at the household level. Right now, one in nine Americans are considered to be food insecure.Ìý

Ways to Support ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª's Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is supported entirely by food and monetary donations by departments, individuals in the ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª community, and community sponsors. We are endlessly grateful for the support that we have received and will continue to receive from the ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª community.Ìý

• CONNECT: The ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª Food Pantry is registered as a Community Reward Partner with King Soopers. ÌýBy registering your King Soopers card, you can give back to the Food Pantry at no extra cost to you. Ìý. ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª's organization number is QR791.

• VOLUNTEER: Join us on Thursdays to welcome students, stock shelves, and build a welcoming ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª Community. ÌýVolunteer as an individual or as a department, team, or club. ÌýYou can sign up to volunteer on our Crimson Connect page.

• PURCHASE: ÌýThere are many ways to contribute to the ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª Food Pantry through purchases.

  • Amazon Wishlist: Consider buying items from our that our ³Ô¹Ï´ó±¾Óª Food Pantry visitors rely on. By purchasing an item from this list, you ensure that items are delivered by their best by date and get the items our visitors want.

  • Food Drives: Every year, dozens of groups on campus come together to collect boxes of food for the Pantry. If you would like to run a food drive for your department, club, team, classÌýor organization, email foodpantry@du.edu for signage and instructions.Ìý

  • Individual Donations: If you would like to donate food to the pantry as an individual, please reach out to foodpantry@du.edu

  • Monetary Donations: When food donations are not enough for our regular operations, we supplement with store-bought foodÌýpaid for by generous monetary donations from our partners and friends around campus; Sodexo and Aramark have been exceptionally generous donors!
