Network Connectivity Options

The purpose of this article is to explain the network connectivity options available at the 吃瓜大本营 and help students, faculty, staff, and visitors choose the appropriate network for their needs.

The 吃瓜大本营 provides both wireless and wired network access throughout campus, including academic buildings, residence halls, offices, classrooms, and many common areas.

Note: Wired network connections are generally faster and more stable than wireless connections, particularly for video conferencing, streaming, gaming, and large file transfers.

Wireless Networks

eduroam

eduroam is the 吃瓜大本营鈥檚 secure wireless network for current students, faculty, and staff. Once connected, your device will automatically reconnect whenever you are on campus.

To sign in, use your full 吃瓜大本营 email address and password.

Connect to eduroam

  1. Open your device鈥檚 Wi鈥慒i settings.
  2. Select eduroam from the list of available networks.
  3. Enter your full 吃瓜大本营 email address and password.
  4. If prompted, accept or trust the security certificate to complete the connection.

Note: Access to the 吃瓜大本营鈥檚 eduroam network is restricted to current 吃瓜大本营 students, faculty, and staff. Guests and visitors, including those from other institutions that participate in eduroam, cannot connect to 吃瓜大本营鈥檚 eduroam network.

Supported Devices

Wireless access is available for:

  • Laptops
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Other supported wireless devices

If you experience issues connecting, ensure your 吃瓜大本营 credentials are current and that your device's operating system is up to date.

吃瓜大本营 Guest
吃瓜大本营 Guest is the 吃瓜大本营's wireless network for campus visitors and guests. It provides internet access without requiring a 吃瓜大本营 account, making it ideal for short-term visitors, vendors, and event attendees. Access is limited to the internet and does not provide access to secure university resources.

  • Open your device's Wi-Fi Settings.
  • Select the 吃瓜大本营 Guest wireless network (or the guest network available on campus).
  • Open a web browser. If the login page doesn't appear automatically, try visiting any website to trigger the captive portal.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions:
    • If self-registration is available, enter the requested information (such as your name and email address).
    • If you're attending an event, use the guest credentials provided by your host.
  • Accept the terms of use and complete the login process. You should then have internet access.

Using the Wired Network

For optimal network performance, Information Technology @吃瓜大本营 recommends using a wired network connection for:

  • Windows PCs
  • Mac computers
  • Laptops
  • Gaming devices
  • Other network-capable equipment

Most 吃瓜大本营 network connections support speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), providing a faster and more consistent connection than wireless networking.

Requirements

To connect to the wired network while on campus, you will need:

  • A computer or device with an Ethernet network port (or a compatible Ethernet adapter)
  • A CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable
  • An active Ethernet port in your office
